I recently retired after working for 40 years in the field of aging in North Dakota. Now, as volunteer state president for AARP North Dakota, I am concerned that an important voice has been missing from the political debate over the future of Social Security and Medicare — yours.
But here’s your chance to make your voice heard. AARP North Dakota is hosting a community conversation open to the public and people of all ages from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Gladstone Inn & Suites. Our goal is to give you a chance to speak out and offer ideas about how to keep Social Security and Medicare strong today and for future generations.
For more than a year, the president and Congress have been talking about changes to Medicare and Social Security as part of a budget deal. Absent from these discussions is how any changes would affect you and your family. Across the country and here in North Dakota, AARP is taking this debate out from behind closed doors in Washington to ensure you have a say in the future of Medicare and Social Security.
Your voice matters because Social Security and Medicare are the foundation of income and health security in retirement for most Americans.
This is an important conversation, especially in an election year, because whoever is elected to the White House and Congress could make decisions about the future of Social Security and Medicare that could affect you and your family for years to come.
So, please join us Monday evening.
