ND oil patch airport might need $100M to upgrade

Dickinson officials say the city airport might need $100 million in the next five years to accommodate growth, and that the city might have to foot more of the bill than usual.

DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) — Dickinson officials say the city airport might need $100 million in the next five years to accommodate growth, and that the city might have to foot more of the bill than usual.

Theodore Roosevelt Regional Airport Manager Matthew Remynse (REHM’-see) says the Federal Aviation Administration won't have enough money to fully support the airports in the oil patch cities of Dickinson, Williston and Minot. The Dickinson Press reports that City Commissioner Joe Frenzel estimates that the three airports will need $400 million in the next decade.

Remynse says Dickinson might need to expand runways and build a new terminal. The FAA typically provides 90 percent of the funding for eligible projects, but Frenzel says up to half of the funds for Dickinson improvements might have to come locally.
