Some N.D voters may face dress code

FARGO (AP) — Some North Dakota voters may face a dress code when they vote in the June election.

WDAY-TV reported that a Cass County official said people wearing Fighting Sioux gear may be asked to take it off or cover it up before they can vote.

That’s because people cannot campaign at the polls.

Voters will decide whether to uphold or reject a law passed by the Legislature that would require the University of North Dakota to use the Fighting Sioux nickname.

The dispute began when the NCAA told schools to get rid of American Indian nicknames or risk sanctions.

Some schools got permission from namesake tribes. UND got approval from the Spirit Lake Sioux Tribe, but the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe has refused to hold a vote on the issue.
