Class B baseball: Cards down Knights

The No. 1 seed for this weekend’s Region 3 baseball tournament needed just 4 1/3 innings to defeat Dakota Prairie 10-0 in Carrington on Monday.

The No. 1 seed for this weekend’s Region 3 baseball tournament needed just 4 1/3 innings to defeat Dakota Prairie 10-0 in Carrington on Monday.

The Carrington Cardinals’ Peter Henson allowed just two hits and struck out three on the mound as he picked up the victory and the Cards rolled. Clay Heinley — batting No. 2 in the Cards’ order — went 2-for-4 at the plate, scoring a run and driving in four to lead Carrington at the plate.

Carrington’s Tyler Skytland went 1-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs.

Evan Kroke and Dylan Gillett picked up the only two hits for the Knights.

The Region 3 tournament starts on Saturday in New Rockford.

Sheyenne-New Rockford tuned up for the Region 3 tournament with a Monday sweep of Kidder County.

In Game 1, Chance LaBrie held the Pirates to just one hit and went 2-for-2 at the plate in a 6-5 Black Sox win.

LaBrie registered seven strikeouts in the win and weaved around four Black Sox errors. Both teams committed four defensive miscues. Ethan Haley had a 2-for-3 outing and drove in three runs. Seth Gilliss added two hits.

In the nightcap, Mason Haley, Ethan Haley, Lucas Risovi and Ben Makay each banged out two hits as the Black Sox piled up 11 hits in just four innings of batting. They scored in every inning but the second.

Mason Haley got the win as they improved to 8-10 overall.

Jayden Miller doubled and had two of the Pirates six hits.

The Region 3 tournament begins Saturday in New Rockford as the Black Sox, seeded fifth, take on Midkota, the No. 4 seed at 10 a.m.

Carrington is the top seed. Harvey-Wells County is seeded second with Dakota Prairie No. 3 and Lakota-Adams Edmore seeded sixth.
