Ground broken for Sioux Falls sports facility

Dakotas-based Sanford Health has broken ground for a $19 million sports facility in Sioux Falls.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Dakotas-based Sanford Health has broken ground for a $19 million sports facility in Sioux Falls.

The five-sided building dubbed the Pentagon will have nine basketball courts and a center arena seating 3,100 spectators. The Sioux Falls Skyforce of the NBA Development League will use the arena in 2013-14.

The Argus Leader reports that the Pentagon is to open in September 2013 and will serve as the centerpiece of the Sanford Sports Complex. The $46 million project utilizing city, private and nonprofit money also will serve tennis, football and hockey.
