Nick Stockert was right at home Friday at Hillcrest.
The Jamestown High School freshman posted a season-leading round of 77 at the Blue Jay Invite on Friday to tie for the 10th, which also is a season-high for any Blue Jay golfer.
“Great round by Nick,” said JHS coach Dean Kraft. “The 77 is a career-best as a Blue Jay.”
Stockert also had the shot of the round as he holed out his second shot from 190 yards on the par 4, 435-yard 12th hole.
“Nick added some excitement with the eagle,” Kraft said. “He has been struggling this season so I’m pleased for him to see that score come down.”
As a team, however, they weren’t able to make a lot of progress relative to the rest of the field.
Their 333 was a season-best, but good only for eighth.
“We needed to get it down another 10-15 strokes,” Kraft said.
Brandon Hart and Jakobi Lux finished with rounds of 84 and 85, respectively Friday at Hillcrest, the par 71 course that was playing 6,430 yards. Hart’s 84 included four double bogeys. Lux’s round was a season-best.
Austin Rene had an 87, but skewed higher mainly to a 9 on 16.
“So the good scores are just a couple of holes away from us,” Kraft said. “We still tack on too many big numbers and have to find a way to minimize the damage.”
Bismarck Century won its sixth meet of the season and second straight led by co-medalist Drew Lingle, who fired an even-par 71. Bismarck High’s Nick Nustad also posted a 71.
The Patriots finished four clear of the Demons for the team title, 296-300.
All nine West Region teams will be busy next week with three meets in Bismarck, starting Monday at Apple Creek with Hawktree and Tom O’Leary to follow on the weekend.
