Cooking show set for Thursday at JC

Practiced cooks and novices alike can benefit from the upcoming Taste of Home Cooking School show, set for Thursday at the Reiland Fine Arts Center on the Jamestown College campus.

“It makes cooking fun,” said Lynn Lambrecht, sales manager for Ingstad Family Media of Jamestown. “I don’t like to cook … but I usually come out of this show going ‘Oh yeah, I can do that.’”

“Taste of Home” is a national cookbook publication, and the cooking schools go along with that. So far, Jamestown has hosted the cooking schools at least six times, each time with a different set of recipes and with some different teachers, too.

This year, culinary expert Guy Klinzing will demonstrate 10 new recipes to the audience, including peanut butter cheesecake, grilled chicken in mango chipotle mojo and Mexican shrimp bisque.

“It’s going to be more of a cooking show,” Lambrecht said. “He likes to sing as he’s cooking, do some entertainment with it.”

All 10 of the new recipes are included in a “Taste of Home” cookbook that each audience member will receive in a goodie bag. The bag also includes free samples, coupons from sponsors and items from local vendors.

Door prizes from local vendors — and all the food cooked during the show — will be given away to the audience.

Although the show starts at 7 p.m., 17 vendors will open displays in the Reiland’s vestibule starting at 3 p.m. that day, including Clever Containers, Infinity Building Services, Lifestyle Appliance Center and Top Designers Salon & Spa.

In the past, the audience has been about 90 percent female, Lambrecht said, but emphasized the event was definitely not just for women.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for $7 at Lifestyle Appliance Center, Hugo’s Family Marketplace and Ingstad Family Media, located at 2625 Eighth Ave. SW, or by calling 252-1400.

Tickets can also be purchased at the door for $10.
