Former Meriwether’s to be demolished

The Bismarck City Commission has decided to tear down the building that once housed the popular Meriwether’s restaurant on the banks of the Missouri River.

BISMARCK (AP) — The Bismarck City Commission has decided to tear down the building that once housed the popular Meriwether’s restaurant on the banks of the Missouri River.

The building was condemned after being heavily damaged by flooding last summer and deemed unsafe. It most recently had been leased by the Fort Abraham Lincoln Foundation for use as a ticket booth for the Lewis and Clark Riverboat.

The building has sat below the Grant Marsh Bridge over the Missouri since the late 1980s, when it was moved from Wilton, where it had been a train depot. The Bismarck Tribune reported that demolition will cost $37,500.
