Ghana citizen sentenced in ND to federal prison

A man from the African nation of Ghana who authorities say used a fraudulent passport to enter the United States and eventually make his way to North Dakota has been sentenced to federal prison.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A man from the African nation of Ghana who authorities say used a fraudulent passport to enter the United States and eventually make his way to North Dakota has been sentenced to federal prison.

Twenty-nine-year-old Ashalley Kotey pleaded guilty to identity theft and immigration offenses. U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon says Kotey was sentenced to two years and one day in prison.

Kotey was accused of possessing counterfeit immigration documents and of gaining employment in Dickinson by using the identity of another person.
