The Hospital Auxiliaries of North Dakota convention was held in Mandan, N.D., at the Seven Seas Motor Inn on May 17. Host auxiliaries were Jamestown, Valley City and Ashley. Attending were 147 members from 18 communities across the state. The theme was “Building for the Future.”
Jan Barnes, Jamestown Regional Medical Center Foundation director, opened the convention with a virtual tour of JRMC and information about the new addition to the hospital that is currently under construction. The featured speaker, Leslie Sullivan, marketing manager of Mercy Hospital in Williston, also followed the theme with information on living in the center of the Oil Patch, and its impact on the community, area and public entities such as the hospital, schools, and highways. She stressed that Williston is still a good place to live, and people shouldn’t be afraid to come visit — just make a hotel reservation before you come.
A silent auction was held throughout the day, with each auxiliary furnishing an item for the sale. Proceeds from this fundraiser netted more than $1,500 which will be used towards future gatherings.
Debbie Fowler, from Wolcott, N.D., and her son Kenneth entertained the group as clowns. She included a message on the importance of facing the adversities of life with faith and humor.
The meeting concluded with the annual business meeting. Elected to state offices were Lori Koppinger of Beach, president; Becky Hill of Minot, first vice president; and Jean Schnabel of Ashley, treasurer.
District HAND meetings will be this fall in various districts throughout the state.
