Dog park is another solid asset to this city
Jamestown will add another park to its ample list tonight — Pepper’s Dog Park. It’s been a long journey to get to this point. We welcome the addition of this special park that will give dog owners and their pets a place to relax and enjoy.
Jamestown will add another park to its ample list tonight — Pepper’s Dog Park. It’s been a long journey to get to this point. We welcome the addition of this special park that will give dog owners and their pets a place to relax and enjoy.
The park is located on land along 13th Street Southwest on land donated by Reuben and Clarice Liechty.
Signs with rules and etiquette will be posted around the park, but most rules are common sense for dog owners. Don’t bring in a favorite toy; only let the dog off the leash once you and it are inside; no dogs in heat; and no puppies younger than 4 months.
And there is the most obvious rule: Clean up after your dog.
Many people in Jamestown love their dogs and want nothing but to have a good time with them. Cleaning up after your dog keeps the site enjoyable for everyone.
We also have to thank some of those who were directly involved in making this dog park possible. They include the Liechtys, Jamestown Parks and Recreation, Nancy Thoen and Crystal Almond, and the business skills training group, the Dale Carnegie Leadership Group. Their generosity and efforts are appreciated.
Even though the park doesn’t open until a ribbon cutting at 5:30 p.m. today, tourism officials are already seeing the potential benefits.
Greeters at the Frontier Village and employees at the National Buffalo Museum have taken tours of Jamestown to become familiar with the sights, including Pepper’s Dog Park, so they can help tourists find other places worth visiting.
Now, people who travel through Jamestown with their dogs also have a place to stop and let their pooches get some air and exercise.
The park’s main purpose, however, is to give local dogs a place to socialize while their owners mingle. We expect local dog owners will find that the wait for this park to open has been worth the while.
Congratulations to those who’ve brought this park to fruition and to the residents and their canines who will benefit from their work.
