JHS trio chosen: Three Blue Jays named to all-West team

No team in the West Region won more games than the Blue Jays in the regular season.

Then it made sense when Jamestown High School’s trio of Brady Anderson, Danny Fischer and Jake Stilwell were tied for the most from one school named to the all-West Region team.

The Blue Jays finished with a 20-14 record and Anderson, Fischer and Stilwell were big reasons why.

“At the start of the year those three were guys you thought could be in the mix to get those types of honors,” said JHS coach Cory Anderson. “They did a nice job all year.”

A strong argument could be made for Brady Anderson being the top player in the West Region this past season.

He boasted an aluminum-bat like .422 batting average, while using wood of course. The senior third baseman also piled up 33 RBIs, five doubles, two home runs and scored 26 runs.

He also pitched 16 innings, posting a 2-2 record with a 3.20 ERA and 27 strikeouts.

A four-year starter, he finished with a robust .363 career average. He’ll play football and baseball at Valley City State next season, where his dad (Cory) won 274 games as the program’s head baseball coach from 1992-2007.

Fischer, like Anderson, was a four-year staple in the lineup at shortstop for the Blue Jays. His last season was his best, posting a sparkling .406 average out of the leadoff hole with a team-best 37 runs scored.

Fischer, who will play at Northern State Aberdeen next season, won three of his five decision on the mound. In 24 innings he allowed only six earned runs.

“Both (Brady and Danny) kids put time into their craft,” Cory Anderson said. “It was not by accident they had the success they did.”

Stilwell, a junior, was third on the team in average (.333) and runs (22) and second in RBIs (21). He had some arm and shoulder issues that kept him from pitching as much as they would have liked, but went 2-0 in three appearances.

“We all would have liked for him to be able to be on the mound more, but he still did a lot of good things for us,” Anderson said.

The Blue Jays, Dickinson, Mandan and Bismarck Century each had three players named to the team.
