Letter to the editor: Gulleson is the best leader to represent North Dakota

At any time, in any walk of life, it is important to pick the right person for the job. Forty-two years ago, when you needed someone to lead a combat unit in Vietnam, you called on me, a Marine Corps infantry officer, and others serving in the Marines, Army, Navy and Air Force. Today, when we need someone to represent and defend the interests of North Dakota’s veterans in Congress, we need to call on a leader with proven ability and experience on that battlefield, Pam Gulleson.

North Dakota has only one vote in the U.S. House of Representatives, so we have to make sure we send the most experienced strategist and tactician we have. I’ve known Gulleson for a long time, and I know that during her 16 years in the Legislature and eight years as state director for former Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., she always made veterans and veterans issues a top priority.

Gulleson worked with legislators of both parties, in both Washington and Bismarck, to secure the funding to build the new veterans home in Lisbon, N.D., and helped to get Community-Based Outpatient Clinics into many communities across this state to serve the North Dakota veterans whose homes are too far from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Fargo. She has a proven record of working across the aisle to find bipartisan solutions for the issues facing our veterans, and our state.

Pam Gulleson has my vote for the U.S. House of Representatives, and I hope she has yours, too.
