Letter to the editor: Measure 2 will take control of government spending
There are many reasons why I support Measure 2. Property tax is the most intrusive tax. Property tax is not directly related to the ability of the taxpayer to pay. Property tax discourages capital investment. Property tax continues to increase no matter what. Government officials have not solved the problems caused by high property taxes.By: Daniel Rugroden, The Jamestown Sun
There are many reasons why I support Measure 2. Property tax is the most intrusive tax. Property tax is not directly related to the ability of the taxpayer to pay. Property tax discourages capital investment. Property tax continues to increase no matter what. Government officials have not solved the problems caused by high property taxes.
There are many other taxes the people of North Dakota pay. I do not have to pay income tax if I do not have income. I do not have to pay sales tax if I do not buy anything extra beyond necessities. I do not have to pay fuel tax if I do not buy fuel. I do not have to pay liquor tax if I do not buy alcohol. I do not have to pay tobacco tax if I do not buy tobacco. I do not have to pay motor vehicle tax if I do not have a vehicle to drive. I do not have to pay hotel tax if I do not stay in a hotel.
You have to pay property tax just to live in your house. Because of property tax, your house will never really be your home. The government can take your house anytime you are not able to pay your property tax. Property tax is like a perpetual mortgage payment. Your mortgage payment will end. Your tax will not end unless you vote for Measure 2.
Politicians will spend as much money as we the taxpayers allow them to take. I have a lot of confidence in our government officials. I am confident that the government will spend every dollar government officials take from me in the form of property tax. Hence, we the people can rein in out of control government spending by supporting Measure 2.
