University accepts local students
Nathan Ellingson, Amanda Michel, Alyssa Mangin, Levi Peterson, and Zach Neva of Jamestown are among hundreds of new students about to pursue a degree at the University of Mary in Bismarck, starting fall semester 2012. “We are pleased and grateful to welcome these new freshmen to our growing University of Mary family, and are proud to have them (participate in the innovative, values-based learning experience that distinguishes a Mary education,” said the Rev. James Shea, president. “Our programs prepare students to be competent, courageous, ethical (leaders in their professions and their communities.

The university’s setting in the thriving North Dakota capital of Bismarck offers abundant opportunities for students to complement their academics with hands-on experience and network with businesses and organizations. The joy and perspective they gain and relationships they establish will benefit them for a lifetime.”
Ellingson, a senior at Jamestown High School, is active in basketball and plays piano and football. In 2011 Ellingson was awarded the Blue Jay Football’s Hardest Worker award. A recipient of the Sister Thomas Welder and ND Career and Technical Education scholarships, he plans to major in athletic training and pursue a doctorate in physical therapy while attending the University of Mary in Bismarck. Ellingson is the son of U-Mary alumni Lee and Aim Ellingson of Jamestown.
Michel, a senior at Medina High School, is active in FFA and 4-H. She plans to major in social work while attending the University of Mary in Bismarck. Michel is the daughter of Julie Michel of Jamestown.
Mangin, a senior at Jamestown High School, is active in pep band, golf, speech and her church youth group. She lettered in golf and speech while in high school. She plans to major in business management while attending the University of Mary in Bismarck. Mangin is the daughter of Davie and Teresa Mangin of Jamestown.
Peterson, a senior at Jamestown High School, is active in the National Honor Society, FBLA, football and track. Peterson was president of his local FBLA club and four- and three-year letterer in track and football, respectively. He plans to major in physical therapy while attending the University of Mary in Bismarck. Peterson is the son of Kevin and Heidi Koenig of Jamestown.
Neva, a senior at Jamestown High School, is active in student council, National Honors Society, FBLA, track,football and basketball. He plans to major in physical therapy while attending at the University of Mary in Bismarck. Neva is the son of Tim and Michelle Neva of Jamestown.
