Letter to the ediitor: Measure 3 has more funds fighting it than for it

I feel that one of the front page headlines which appeared in The Jamestown Sun on Wednesday concerning Measure 3 was misleading to anyone not familiar with the issue.

I feel that one of the front page headlines which appeared in The Jamestown Sun on Wednesday concerning Measure 3 was misleading to anyone not familiar with the issue.

The headline “Religion measure attracts big donations on both sides” assumes that large equal donations have been made to both proponents of the measure and those who are in opposition. This is far from the case.

So far, the organized opposition to Measure 3 has accumulated just under $700,000. About $650,000 has come from Planned Parenthood, an organization that receives taxpayers’ money.

Most of that amount has come from outside of North Dakota. An additional $40,000 has come from the American Civil Liberties Union.

The North Dakota Family Alliance, the organization sponsoring Measure 3, received about $104,000, most of which has come from donations within North Dakota.

These facts may help to put Wednesday’s headline in perspective.
