All are invited to attend the seventh annual WALKRUN with Christ June 16 at Ave Maria Village near Jamestown Reservoir.
The event includes a 5K and 10K run with a challenging up-and-downhill course, as well as a 5K walk race.
There’s also a family/individual walk for people who want to visit and walk at a more leisurely pace. The WALKRUN includes the Pastor Walk, in which churches sponsor their pastors.
After all the events, a freewill offering lunch will be served by the Jamestown Knights of Columbus, Council 1883.
Awards will be given to the racers and live Christian music will be provided. Later in the afternoon, there will be a quarter-mile kids’ race and other children’s games.
There will be a variety of county fair games such as sack races and three-legged races.
The purpose of the WALKRUN is threefold.
It promotes unity amongst churches, communities and families because everyone is invited to share in the day.
It is an ntergenerational event with residents from Ave Maria Village attending to provide a cheering section, parishioners encouraging their pastors in the pastor walk and families of all ages participating in the family walk.
Another purpose is to advocate a healthy lifestyle for all, including mental and spiritual health. The WALKRUN gives people an opportunity to unwind and reprioritize as they look at the big picture of God’s plan. It allows people to get together with others with similar beliefs and values, rejoicing in the blessings they have received.
The charity aspect is the final purpose of the WALKRUN. Youth groups can raise money for their missions and activities by collecting sponsors for each mile walked or by raising money for their pastors in the Pastor Walk.
Some groups even donate a percentage of their funds to larger global organizations such as the Rev. Jack Davis’ Mission in Peru, which St. James Basilica Faith Formation and St. John’s Academy support.
