Grand Forks woman pleads guilty in fatal crash

A Grand Forks woman accused of causing the death of another woman while driving drunk has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of negligent homicide.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — A Grand Forks woman accused of causing the death of another woman while driving drunk has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of negligent homicide.

Twenty-six-year-old Ebony Miles initially had been charged with manslaughter in the February death of 63-year-old Florence Umphrey of Inkster. The Grand Forks Herald reports that if a judge approves the plea agreement she reached with prosecutors, Miles will serve four years in prison. She is to be sentenced Aug. 3.

Police say Miles pulled in front of the vehicle Humphrey was riding in Feb. 8 and caused a crash that injured Humphrey and led to her death about a week later.
