Six candidates are running for Jamestown Public School Board. Voters will elect one rural representative and three city representatives on Tuesday. The Sun endorses Terry Anderson for the rural seat and Gail Martin, Diane Hanson and Roger Haut for the city seats.
Anderson has worked tirelessly on a number of different committees tasked with improving athletics in Jamestown Public Schools. He brings an in-depth understanding and knowledge of the committees’ work to the board.
Martin is a longtime board member with a diligence to fiscal responsibility. Her background in banking, understanding of finances and dedication to the school district’s fiscal needs and budget serve the district well.
Hanson served out the last remaining year of a term that was vacated when Scott Walch resigned to take a job in another city. Hanson is concerned with attracting and retaining students, key issues for the district.
Haut has regularly attended meetings for the past several months. He brings that knowledge regarding the district’s deficit spending to the table, along with his strengths as a longtime business owner and operator in Jamestown.
All candidates bring different strengths to the board. The Sun believes Anderson, Martin, Hanson and Haut will bring strengths that collectively will best serve the district.
