Area golfers qualify for district event

Four area golfers placed first at the Jamestown Optimist Club Qualifying Tournament here on June 8.

Winners qualified for the Optimist Junior District Championships June 24 in Brainerd, Minn.
Cole Bennion won the 13-and-under division of the tournament with a round of 91, which was played at Jamestown Country Club. Valley City’s Drew Oberlander was second.
Nick Stockert won the 14-15-year-old division with a score of 81, topping Mandan’s Colton Murphy by four strokes.
In the 16-18 division, Mandan’s Taylor Trenda won a 3-way, sudden-death playoff over Nick Blaskowski of Pingree and Jamestown’s Brandon Stahlhut. All three carded rounds of 77.
Sierra Bennion won the girls 13-14 division.
