Grafton wins LaMoure tourney

Grafton defeated Hope-Finley in the championship game of the fourth annual Ross Meidinger Legion Baseball Tournament in LaMoure on Sunday. A six-run bottom of the fifth put it out of reach for Grafton as they banged out 13 hits in the 11-2 victory.

Grafton defeated Hope-Finley in the championship game of the fourth annual Ross Meidinger Legion Baseball Tournament in LaMoure on Sunday.

A six-run bottom of the fifth put it out of reach for Grafton as they banged out 13 hits in the 11-2 victory.

Sam Huekert went 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Austin Campbell added two hits, three runs and a pair of RBIs. Zach Suda was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs. Logan Thompson contributed a 2-for-4 game with a double and two runs. Eight different Grafton players collected hits in the win.

Jamie Villareal had six strikeouts over six innings to get the win.

Jake Ihry clubbed a two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to account for both Hope-Finley runs.

In the third-place game, LaMoure erupted for 10 runs in the bottom of the third inning to sail past Lisbon, 14-2.

Chris Heinrich went all seven on the mound, allowing five hits with seven strikeouts.

Brady Thielges and Zach Stemen each had three hits in the win for LaMoure. Thielges added two RBIs, scored twice and tripled. Tanner Carlson added two hits.

Derek Lyons and Wyatt Aberle each had two hits for Lisbon.

The fifth-place game was all Valley City as they scored in all four innings en route to a 17-5 triumph over Wahpeton.

Chase Carpenter had hits in all three of his at bats plus a double. Josh Magnuson collected two hits and Austin Meyer had four RBIs and three runs.

Andrew Leinen had two hits for Wahpeton, which struggled defensively with eight errors in the game.

The Jamestown Blues won their first game of the tournament by rolling by Lidgerwood 9-5.

Scott Nelson rapped out two doubles and had three RBIs for the Blues. Joey Gebhardt drove in two runs. Landon Weiser scored twice and Nick Fuchs doubled and scored.

Peyton Walker, the second of three Jamestown pitchers, got the win.
