Semi damages railroad crossing arm Sunday

A semi driver damaged a railroad crossing and left the scene Sunday evening in eastern Jamestown.

A semi driver damaged a railroad crossing and left the scene Sunday evening in eastern Jamestown.

A semi turned right from 12th Avenue Southeast to go eastbound on Third Street when it struck a railroad crossing arm on Sunday evening in Jamestown, according to Cpl. Brian Miller of the Jamestown Police Department. The call came in to the Law Enforcement Center at 6:26 p.m.

According to scanner reports from the time of the accident, the driver fled the scene. Miller confirmed that police later reached the driver, who said that he left the scene because he was not aware that he had struck the crossing arm.

Amy McBeth, BNSF Railway director for public affairs, said that a crew was sent out to the location Sunday night to begin working on repairing the railroad crossing.

No further information was available as of press time.
