P.E.O. elects officers at state convention

Mary Borman, Chapter AA Bismarck, was elected president of the North Dakota State Chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood during its 98th annual convention June 1-2 at the Seven Seas Conference Center in Mandan, N.D. Judy McDaniel, Chapter J, Wahpeton, presided over the convention.

Other officers elected are Janis Bensch, Chapter K, Jamestown, vice president; Germaine Ueckert, Chapter C, Beach, organizer; Marianna Malm, Chapter V, Fargo, treasurer; and Marcia Foss, Chapter Z, Valley City, secretary.

The P.E.O. Sisterhood is a women’s organization that supports educational opportunities through loans, grants and scholarships. At this year’s convention 15 women received $13,300 from the Jane A. Taylor Scholarship. This endowed scholarship is given to North Dakota women attending accredited colleges or universities in North Dakota. Residency, scholarship, character, school and community involvement are criteria for being awarded the scholarship.

Mattie Richardson, Sheldon, N.D., was awarded $4,000 and Katie Lange from Webster, N.D., was awarded $2,000 to attend Cottey College, in Neveda, Mo., from the Carrie B. Simpson Cottey College Scholarship fund. Cottey College was founded in 1884 and has been owned and supported by the P.E.O. Sisterhood since 1927.
