N.D. Republican may get appointment
The Republican candidate for North Dakota’s Public Service Commission has a shot at an appointment to the job he’s already running for.
BISMARCK (AP) — The Republican candidate for North Dakota’s Public Service Commission has a shot at an appointment to the job he’s already running for.
Hazen state Sen. Randy Christmann is campaigning for a PSC spot that became vacant last week. Incumbent Republican Tony Clark resigned.
The North Dakota Constitution has prevented Christmann from being considered for the opening.
But last week, North Dakota voters approved removing the constitutional restriction. Christmann is now eligible for an appointment before the election.
Christmann said Monday he spoke briefly with Gov. Jack Dalrymple about the job. He and the governor plan to meet again later this week.
Christmann and Democrat Brad Crabtree are running for Clark’s former commission seat.
Christmann said Dalrymple told him he’ll appoint someone to serve out the rest of Clark’s term.
