There were no injuries and no property damage was reported following a fire north of the old C.H. Carpenter Lumber building in Jamestown at about 5:20 p.m. Tuesday, according to Jerry Kainz, deputy chief of the Jamestown Fire Department.

Kainz said firefighters were able to extinguish a fire on some pallets in the storage area north of the building before the fire reached any part of the structure.

While Kainz said the fire was likely due to “human intervention” and said, “It didn’t start on its own,” he said the JFD is still investigating the incident and has not classified it as arson.

The old C.H. Carpenter Lumber building is located in southeast Jamestown near the Fourth Avenue North viaduct.
