Brady Anderson produced something to build off of Wednesday.

The Jamestown Post 14 pitcher didn’t make it out of the first inning in his last start, but kept the Fargo Metro Expos off-balance in an 8-2 win at Jack Brown Stadium. Jamestown downed Fargo 7-1 in the nightcap for the sweep, which doesn’t count toward the statewide standings.

Anderson said his off-speed pitches kept the Expos at bay.

“My curveball and changeup were working pretty good today,” he said.

The Valley City State commit threw seven innings without allowing an earned run. He gave up a bunt single in the first inning and didn’t allow another hit until a pair of singles in the top of the seventh. He walked five and hit one batter, but did strike out seven.

“He was telling me that around the fourth or the fifth, his arm was getting loose,” Jamestown coach Shane Schoeneberg said. “I thought he got more confident as the game went on.”

The first inning was a little rocky as Jamestown (4-5) committed two errors, leading to two unearned runs for Fargo. A pair of walks issued didn’t help Anderson’s cause.

Still, he faced just four over the minimum the rest of the way en route to his first win of the season.

“Once I got the confidence on the mound, it was just getting into a good rhythm,” Anderson said. “The control comes with working through a game.”

Jamestown answered Fargo’s two runs in the bottom half with two of its own on an Anderson RBI double and a Kasey Gengler groundout. Post 14 added three more runs in the third with the help of a Tyler Ukestad double. Jake Stilwell and Ben Walz had run-scoring singles in the fifth, when Jamestown struck for three more.

Stilwell and Shaun Hogan had team highs of two hits as part of a nine-hit effort for a team that entered having scored seven runs in as many games.

“That was very encouraging,” Schoeneberg said. “I told the guys to keep it simple. See the ball, hit the ball and the results will happen.”

Danny Fischer provided another gem in the second game, holding the Expos to one run, which came in the top of the seventh. He scattered seven hits over seven innings, striking out four and never issuing a walk.

Help came early, as Gengler drilled a double to right field to plate Fischer and Anderson. Jamestown found more insurance with a four-run fifth thanks to an RBI double from Anderson. Stilwell and Nick Fuchs had RBI singles, and Anderson capped the scoring in the sixth with another RBI double.

Post 14 hits the road for a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader today at Mandan.
