Bravo to Drewello, retiring library director

The Jamestown Sun hands out these bravos this week:

* Bravo to the city of Edgeley, N.D., which celebrated its 125th anniversary last week.

* Bravo to Carrington, N.D., native Jim Kleinsasser, who was honored with the North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association’s Special Achievement award for his career in the National Football League. Kleinsasser played for the Minnesota Vikings for 13 years, finishing his career with 192 catches for 1,688 yards.

* Bravo to Jamestown’s taxable sales increasing by 16 percent from 2010 to 2011, reaching a total of $249 million.

* Bravo to Daphne Drewello, who is retiring this month after 33 years as a library director in Jamestown. An open house for her is planned from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Alfred Dickey Library.

* Bravo to Mitchell Roth, the Jamestown man who organizes a weekly downtown picnic for the public. The neighborhood picnic is at 2 p.m. every Sunday in the Arts Park at the corner of First Avenue and Second Street Southwest.

* Bravo to the study, now in its early stages, to research more permanent options for controlling flooding in the James River Basin. Recent floods have put the region close to losing millions of dollars in property and it’s time to find better solutions.

* Bravo to Caravanserai, a series of performances coming to Jamestown in the coming year that will feature artists from Morocco. Arts Midwest chose Jamestown for the series, which will bring three residencies with four artists here to share their culture.
