VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) — Williston High School’s activities director said the city should be able to host sports tournaments in the future despite the oil boom.
Williston’s location in northwest North Dakota has always been a logistical barrier. With the oil boom, hotel rooms are scarce and rates have soared.
The Forum newspaper reported that activities director Jeff Dornfeld told the state High School Activities Association recently that three hotels are being built that will have an allotment of rooms for people who are not oil workers.
He also said he doesn’t see student safety as an issue, and that traffic congestion and restaurant availability have improved in the city. He said the situation isn’t as bad as people think.
