A semi and trailer caught fire today on Interstate 29 one mile north of Grandin, N.D., prompting the closure of I-29's north lane from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., the North Dakota Highway Patrol reported in a press release.

A mechanical failure caused the fire, which created a hazard and reduced visibility for the public.

From 10 to 11:45 a.m., northbound traffic was diverted onto County Road 81. At 11:45 a.m. the left lane was reopened, allowing traffic to pass by the scene.

The right lane will remain closed until the scene is clear and the debris removed.
