Two seats on the Jamestown City Council changed hands at special meetings Tuesday.
Ken Schulz and Pat Nygaard were both thanked for their service during the first of two special meetings. Neither had sought re-election to the council.
“This has been a fantastic two years,” said Mayor Katie Andersen. “This council didn’t always agree but always respected each other.”
Schulz said he had enjoyed his eight years on the council.
“Thanks to all the council,” he said. “I wish you all well. It has been a pleasure to work with the city staff.”
Nygaard agreed.
“I appreciate the civility and professionalism of the council,” he said.
Immediately after the adjournment of the first meeting, the new City Council convened to organize the new City Council.
Dan Buchanan and Steve Brubakken were sworn in to their first council terms. Charlie Kourajian was sworn in to his second term on the City Council. Previously, he served nine years as mayor.
Ramone Gumke was elected council president while Brubakken was elected vice president.
The first full meeting of the new City Council will be at 5 p.m. on July 5 at the council chambers in City Hall.
