BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Burleigh County officials say the medical costs for a man accused of killing a Bismarck police officer have topped $128,000.

Steven Bannister has pleaded guilty in the July 8 slaying of Sgt. Steve Kenner. Kenner was killed after responding to a domestic disturbance call.

Another officer shot Bannister after he shot Kenner. Bannister also had a stroke in October.

Burleigh County Sheriff Pat Heinert tells the Bismarck Tribune that it's the most the county has ever spent on medical care for an individual.

Bannister is slated to be sentenced on July 31.
