After 21 years in business in Jamestown — including 17 at its current location in the Buffalo Mall — Mill Town Herbs is closing.
“We feel like we’re letting our customers down by closing, but I guess it’s just the way it’s going to have to be,” said Donna Tees, owner of Mill Town Herbs.
Tees said the business has been doing well recently, but its lease is set to expire at the end of September and she will not be renewing it.
“We’re ready to retire,” Tees said. “My oldest daughter had been running the store for years, but was diagnosed with cancer and died four years ago as of last February.”
Tees said she wanted the store to continue on and has tried selling the business, but has been unable to reach a deal with a prospective buyer.
Tees said the business has been on a year-to-year lease at the Buffalo Mall while she’s been trying to sell it.
After negotiations stalled last week with a prospective buyer, Tees ultimately decided it was time to shut down the business.
“It’s really been a fun business to be in because you get to know your customers, having heart-to-heart talks with them and such,” Tees said.
The store currently employs six part-time staff members.
Tees said storewide closing sales will begin Monday, with everything being marked down 30 percent and select tables of products that will be marked down 50 percent.
“We want to thank the community for the support the past 21 years and all the excellent customers we’ve had come in,” she said.
The store will officially close Aug. 31.
Mill Town Herbs is located in the Buffalo Mall next to Riddle’s Jewelry off of Eighth Avenue Southwest in Jamestown.
Store hours beginning next week are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, with plans to continue cutting back those hours as store closing approaches.
