WALHALLA, N.D. (AP) — Officials are celebrating the grand opening of the Pembina Gorge State Recreational Area in northeastern North Dakota.

Federal, state and local officials were invited for a Saturday morning ribbon-cutting ceremony and tours of a new 12-mile multiuse trail. It is open to off-highway vehicles, hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders.

The state Parks and Recreation Department says an additional 12-mile loop is being planned.
