Camping ban eased on some WMAs in ND for holiday

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A ban on overnight camping on some wildlife management areas in western North Dakota is not in effect this week because of the Fourth of July holiday.

The state Game and Fish Department issued camping restrictions earlier this year because a housing shortage in the oil patch had some people taking shelter at the wildlife areas. That led to problems such as littering and raw sewage dumping, so camping was restricted to certain days in some wildlife management areas and prohibited in others.

Game and Fish says the ban on camping is not in effect this week at Audubon, Custer Mine, Deepwater Creek, deTrobriand, Douglas Creek and Wolf Creek in McLean County; and Beaver Creek and Hille in Mercer County.

Fireworks are prohibited on wildlife management areas.
