Kiddies Bike Parade is July 4

The annual Kiddies Bike Parade will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday on First Avenue South. This 1 1/2-mile leisurely-paced parade will start at the south parking lot on First Avenue and proceed south on First Avenue to Eighth Street, over to Second Avenue Southeast and then south to and through McElroy Park, ending up at the Sertoma Shelter for prize presentations and treats by the Sertoma Club.

The annual Kiddies Bike Parade will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday on First Avenue South. This 1 1/2-mile leisurely-paced parade will start at the south parking lot on First Avenue and proceed south on First Avenue to Eighth Street, over to Second Avenue Southeast and then south to and through McElroy Park, ending up at the Sertoma Shelter for prize presentations and treats by the Sertoma Club.

All bikers are invited to ride in the parade and must wear bike helmets. This family event encourages family to walk together with parents accompanying younger bikers. No motorized bikes of any kind are allowed. This year the Victory Lutheran Church barrel train will be in the parade to give the younger children a ride to McElroy Park.

All bikers under 12 will receive a coupon for a free kiddies ice cream cone from Dairy Queen of Jamestown and the Sertoma Club will serve all bikers and friends free root beer floats at the conclusion of the parade.

The theme of the parade is the Fourth of July and prizes will be awarded for the best decorated bikes. First place receives $20 and second and third place will receive $10 each. At the start of the parade, children under 7 can register for a boy and girls’ bike to be given by the Fraternal Order of Police and kids 7 to 12 can register for a 2 boys’ and 2 girls’ bikes to be given away, courtesy of Walmart, and two bike helmets courtesy of Central Valley Health. Kids 13 to 18 can register for two $10 prizes.

Judging for best decorated bikes will take place at the parking lot and announced at the social at the Sertoma Shelter after the parade. Judging will be based on display of red, white and blue decorations, originality and first impressions

Bikers are asked to be at the south parking lot by 9:30 a.m. to get into their positions for the parade.

The parade is sponsored by the Jamestown Main Street Downtown Association in partnership with the Sertoma, Dairy Queen, McDonalds, Walmart, Victory Lutheran Church, Fantastic Fireworks and the Fraternal Order of Police.
