LaMoure wins road tourney

There are big innings. Then there are big innings. LaMoure Post 19 had the latter Sunday in the championship game of the Leever’s Classic in Valley City.
Trailing 9-3 after five innings, LaMoure exploded for 11 runs in the top of the sixth en route to a 16-9 win over Thompson to cap a 3-0 weekend and improve to 15-8 overall.
Post 19 was outhit 15-13, but Thompson kicked the ball all over the diamond to the tune of eight errors.
Beau Diegel struggled, but went the distance on the mound for Post 19, allowing 15 hits through five innings, but saved his best for last as he did not allow a run over the final three frames.
Diegel also went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and scored three runs. Brady Thielges and Zach Stemen also had two-hit games. Chris Heinrich and Tanner Carlson each had a pair of RBIs.
Connor Weber led Thompson with three hits, including a home run. Jared Syrstad had a double and two triples, but was also saddled with the loss. He surrendered 10 runs in 5 2/3 innings, but only seven were earned.
LaMoure 13, Kindred 3
Tied 6-all after 3 1/2 innings, LaMoure scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth and ended it early due to the 10-run rule in semifinal action.
Tyler Thielges led the charge. The Post 19 catcher went a perfect 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles. He had three RBIs and scored twice as Post 19 outhit Kindred 11-8.
Stemen and Devin Pederson added two hits and an RBI each. Jared Meiklejohn went 1-for-3, walked twice, scored three runs and had two RBIs.
Meiklejohn went the distance on the mound, allowing eight hits over six innings with six strikeouts.
LaMoure 9, Washburn 6
Post 19 kicked off the tournament with a 9-6 win over Washburn.
LaMoure pounded out 14 hits as seven different players collected safeties.
Meiklejohn and Beau Diegel piled up three hits each. Meiklejohn scored twice, while Diegel drove in two runs. Brady Thielges, Tyler Thielges and Chris Heinrich added two hits each. One of Brady’s hits was a triple. Tyler doubled, scored twice and had an RBI, while Heinrich had an RBI and a run scored. Devin Piehl doubled and had two RBIs.
Brady Thielges worked the first four innings on the mound. He got the win, but was charged with six runs. Tanner Carlson entered in the fifth inning and fired three scoreless frames with two strikeouts to earn the save.
