A man was injured and then Lifeflighted to Sanford Health, Fargo, after being caught in an auger Friday morning, according to the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office.
The man, whose identity has not yet been released, was working in a grain bin at 2147 77 Ave. SE, approximately 10 miles north of Buchanan at 10:30 a.m. Friday, when the farm accident occurred.
The Sanford Lifeflight helicopter was called before the Sheriff’s Office made it to the scene.
When it was determined the helicopter was nearly to Jamestown and there was a good place to land near the injured man, the helicopter was rerouted straight to the scene of the accident, said Maj. Jason Falk of the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office.
“He wasn’t ready to be moved yet, and they were almost to Jamestown,” Falk said.
People were with the accident victim when he was hurt, and they called for help.
Jamestown Ambulance and the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, along with Sanford Lifeflight.
“He got caught in the auger,” Falk explained. “(Accidents such as these) happen from time to time. They can be very severe.”
The victim reportedly received leg injuries. His identity may be released Saturday.
