LAMOURE, N.D. (AP) — Dead fish are surfacing in some lakes and rivers in the Dakotas, and officials say the recent hot weather might be to blame.

KVLY-TV reported that there are hundreds of dead fish in the James River in southeastern North Dakota, many of them large northern pike. The state Game and Fish Department said northerns can’t survive in warm water. Dead northerns also are being found at Lake John and Lake Norden in South Dakota.
