It’s no surprise the Jamestown Elks and the Jamestown Miller Lite Merchants made the championship game of the Miller Lite Merchants tournament this weekend at Jack Brown Stadium.

With the cream rising to the top, both teams put on quite a show.

But it was the Elks who came out victorious, as four pitchers combined on a two-hitter in a 2-0 win over the host Merchants.

Ben Watkins started the game, but gave way to Matt Wawers in the third inning. Dan Brown took over in the fifth to pitch an inning and Jay Flaa went the final two innings for the save. Wawers was the winner on the hill.

The Elks scored two runs on the fourth, the first coming on a Matt Swanson grounder up the middle that deflected off Merchants pitcher Sam Hirchert with the bases loaded. The Elks plated another runner on an Erik Peterson double.

Hirchert suffered the loss, going four innings and combining on a five-hitter with Steve Hirchert.
