Two in a row for Corell: Longtime Jamestown driver captures second straight at home track

To prevent tinkering, John Corell’s pit crew had a message for him: Go eat a hot dog.
The veteran driver said he gets a little too worrisome about the car, despite admitting his pit crew knows exactly how to set it up.
The pit crew had the car ready to roll Saturday night at Jamestown Speedway and as for Corell: “I’m gonna keep eating hot dogs.”
Starting eighth, Corell flew by traffic and squeezed into the top three after only two full laps, taking the lead five laps in and never letting up to win his second consecutive WISSOTA Modifieds feature on his home track.
“The guys give me crap — go eat a hot dog and leave the car alone,” Corell joked. “I have a tendency to start changing stuff and that can make a good car bad.”
It was the third win of the season for Corell at Jamestown Speedway. Corell credited his guys for setting up the car.
“They’re good guys,” said Corell, a veteran of more than 35 years on the track. “They’ve been with me for a long time.”
Corell won again, but the track was a little different than last week, he said.
“Last week, it was hammer-down fast,” Corell said. “(Saturday), I don’t think I got past three-quarters throttle all night. I like this kind of track. It’s more driver finesse. Last week was fun to go like that, but it’s hard to pass.”
Another veteran was on his tail.
Underwood’s Marlyn Seidler started second, but jumped past pole-sitter John Nord of Enderlin almost immediately. However, Josh Eberhardt of Jamestown slipped by Seidler and led for three laps before Corell flew by both drivers on the fifth lap. He had intense pressure early from Seidler, who desperately tried to get by.
But the final 10 laps proved Corell’s dominance, and Seidler found himself in a battle for second with Eric Edwards of Edgeley. Edwards finally won out, sneaking past him on the last lap for second. Andy Gordon of Murdock, Minn., was fourth and Nord finished fifth.
Bombers
Cory Rodin of Marion started eighth, but that didn’t deter him in capturing the Bombers feature.
It took him three laps to get into the top three during the 15-lap feature, getting by Travis Traut of Jamestown and Taran Langland of Enderlin.
Leann Christensen of Spiritwood was the hot hand early, holding the lead for two laps until Rodin got by her with 11 to go.
Rodin held the advantage until Christensen fought back, taking the lead with seven laps to go. Rodin got his spot back on the next lap and held on despite a strong charge from Jamestown’s Justin Schempp, who eventually finished second. Tyler Pfaff of Enderlin was third, Mike Sahr of Jamestown took fourth and Christensen ended up fifth.
