A second Gatorade Athlete of the Year has signed with the Jimmies.

Andy Young, the top senior baseball player in the state, has signed with Jamestown College.

The West Fargo High School product, who led the Packers to the Class A state championship last month, hit a robust .405 with the wood bats this spring, including six home runs and 41 RBIs. He also was the team’s top pitcher, going 6-0 with one save. In 46 1/3 innings, he allowed only 32 hits and posted and ERA of 1.51.

He projects as an infielder in college. His teammate with the Packers, Landon Uetz, signed earlier in the spring with Jimmies.

“We’re very excited to get an impact player like Andy,” JC head baseball coach Tom Hager said. “He has a chance to help us in a variety of ways. He’ll provide infield depth and we think he has a chance to be a big part of our program in the future.”

Young hasn’t cooled off at all in the summer. He already has four home runs and 41 RBIs for the Patriots Legion team through 28 games.

“His résumé speaks for itself. But not only is he a talented player, he also is a great kid,” Hager said. “We know he’s going to fit in very well.”

He is the son of Terri and Jeff Young. Jeff was a multi-time all-conference performer for the Jimmies in baseball in the 1980s.
