BURNSVILLE, Minn. — The Better Business Bureau of Minnesota and North Dakota issued a warning to businesses and consumers Monday about a scam claiming President Barack Obama will pay their utility bills through a new federal program, a release stated.

Consumers have been contacted through telephone calls, fliers, social media and text messages with claims about credits for utility bills. Scammers claim to need the consumers’ social security and bank routing numbers to receive the money.

The bureau said to investigate any offer that sounds too good to be true by contacting them at (800) 646-6222 or bbb.org.
