Missing VC woman located in Arizona

A Valley City woman missing for nearly a week has been located in Arizona, according to Fred Thompson, Valley City police chief.

Amber Glatt, 22, was reported missing on the evening of July 4 by her boyfriend, Andy Mushet. Glatt has had a brain injury and has experienced episodes of amnesia in the past. Amy Rines, Glatt’s mother, described her condition as focal retrograde amnesia in a previous Forum Communications news story.

Glatt has had the condition for about two years. She has also been a student at Valley City State University for two years.

Officials speculated she was suffering from amnesia at the time she went missing.

Cmdr. Rex Gilliland of the Coconino County Sheriff’s Department in Arizona verified that his office had located Glatt near the north rim of the Grand Canyon.

“Amber is physically fine,” Gilliland said. “She is currently at the Page Substation of the Coconino County Sherriff’s Department and will be transported to the local hospital there for observation.”

Gilliland said Glatt’s presence in the area was reported by Larry Turk, who he described as a newly found friend of Amber.

“Our dispatch records show that Turk called last night saying he thought there was something different about Amber,” Gilliland said. “He also called Amber’s mother last night.”

Glatt and Turk had met in a bar in North Dakota and traveled to the Grand Canyon area where Turk had a job, Gilliland said.

“This morning our department and park rangers located Amber and Turk attending a wedding party on the north rim of the Grand Canyon,” Gilliland said. “Turk has been cooperative in every part of this situation. He brought Amber’s situation to the attention of law enforcement and her family. There is nothing to indicate criminal activity.”

Kathy Mushet, Andy Mushet’s mother, said the family is relieved that Glatt has been located.

“We were relieved when we got the call from her mother last night that she was in Arizona,” she said. “It has been very, very stressful not knowing. We had no clue and just waiting is the hardest. We hope to see her soon.”

Kathy Mushet said Rines may travel to Arizona for her daughter if necessary. Rines lives in Virginia.

“Her mother has taken the lead although we’ll do all we can to help,” said Kathy Mushet.

Rines could not be reached for comment.
