Custer’s Seventh Cavalry had numerous interactions with the 20th Infantry personnel at Fort Seward, Norman said. Some of it grew contentious when Custer accused the officers at Fort Seward of stealing the magazines and newspapers addressed to the officers of the Seventh Cavalry at Fort Abraham Lincoln.

There other incidents where soldiers of the Seventh spent time at Fort Seward just months before the Battle of the Little Bighorn.

The presentation is free and part of a weekly program of history programs concerning military life in the Dakotas of the 1870s. In the event of inclement weather the event is held at the Fort Seward Interpretive Center.
