For the first time, Jamestown College will have head coaches for both of its soccer programs.
Nick Becker has been hired to coach the Jimmie women’s team. Phil Bohn had coached both teams the past four years, but now will get to focus solely on the men’s side.
“We’re happy that we’re able to split the programs,” JC athletic director Lawrie Paulson said. “Nick is a quality guy and a good coach and he’ll do a very good job for us.
“This is a step in the right direction.”
Becker comes to JC after serving as the graduate assistant for the Northern State (S.D.) women’s soccer program. Becker is a 2008 graduate of Presentation College, where he also played soccer. He had been on staff at NSU since 2008.
He’s also worked in the Olympic Development Program and South Dakota State coaching staffs.
The Jimmies women have improved the past two seasons, but got stuck on five wins in 2010 and ’11 after winning just four matches combined in 2008-09.
Training beings in early August with their first scrimmage set for Aug. 16 at home against Bismarck State College. They host Presentation College Aug. 28 in their official opener.
