A judge has ordered three members of the Spirit Lake Tribe in North Dakota to pay back more than $16,000 in an embezzlement case.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A judge has ordered three members of the Spirit Lake Tribe in North Dakota to pay back more than $16,000 in an embezzlement case.

Bruce Walking Eagle, Rochelle Walking Eagle and Lorna Walking Eagle are charged in federal court with embezzlement from an Indian tribal organization. They pleaded guilty in March.

Authorities say the three defendants accepted benefits from the tribe's vocational rehabilitation program when they were not entitled to the funds.

Bruce and Lorna Walking Eagle were ordered to pay more than $14,000 in restitution.

U.S. District Judge Ralph Erickson sentenced each defendant to probation for two years.
