Fair attendance up from 2011

Attendance at the Stutsman County Fair was up from last year, according to Mike Williams, treasurer of the Stutsman County Fair Board. The official numbers won’t be ready until later in the week, but Williams said it’s safe to say the gate attendance was more than 27,000. This is up from 2011 when attendance was slightly more than 25,500.

“It was a very successful year,” Williams said. “The board was very happy with how everything turned out this year.”

The busiest night was Thursday with close to 9,000 gate admissions. Williams attributed that to the Johnny Holm Band, which is a Thursday night fixture at the fair.

Saturday was the second busiest, followed by Friday and Wednesday.

Williams attributed the growth in attendance to the good weather.

“There’s been years where it has been down because of weather or rain,” he said. “We can do everything right and that’s only 50 percent of it, the other 50 percent is depending on the weather.”
