Lightning ignites tank in Oil Patch
Officials said lightning struck a saltwater tank near Williston causing the contents and the tank to burn.
WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) — Officials said lightning struck a saltwater tank near Williston causing the contents and the tank to burn.
The Williston Rural Fire Department responded to the blaze last week.
Fire Chief Dave Benth told the Dickinson Press that the fiberglass tank held a mixture of gas and saltwater. When the lightning struck the tank, the gas caught on fire, causing the tank to burn.
Saltwater is a byproduct of oil production.
