Project owners say a new hotel could be operating in Jamestown by April 2013.

Brian and Vibha Patel, Fargo, said the 90-room Hampton Inn is under construction southeast of Walmart.

The building inspector's office has only issued a foundation permit and construction at this time is limited to site preparation, excavation, water and sewer connections and building foundations.

Vibha Patel said the hotel will ultimately employ between 25 and 30 people.

“No restaurant or bar but it does have meeting rooms,” she said.

The hotel will stand four-stories tall and have parking lot access to the Walmart parking lot, Eighth Avenue Southwest south of the Grizzly’s and to a gravel street on the south edge of property.

The new hotel will open months before the completion of a planned water tower in south Jamestown. City officials are anticipated to let bids for the new water tower this fall with completion by October 2013.

“There is enough of a water supply for normal usage,” said Reed Schwartzkopf, city engineer. “There continues to be insufficient water for two fire events at the same time in southern Jamestown.”

Patel said the new hotel in Jamestown would be the 14th they own and operate in the upper Midwest.

“Jamestown is a good market,” she said. “Jamestown needs a new hotel. Not enough rooms in town during games.”
