The 42nd annual Germans From Russia Heritage Society Convention is Wednesday through Sunday at the Ramkota Hotel in Bismarck.
The 42nd annual Germans From Russia Heritage Society Convention is Wednesday through Sunday at the Ramkota Hotel in Bismarck. It will be hosted by the Germans from Russia Heritage Society Board of Directors. The theme is “Connecting Germans from Russia Around the World.” The official convention opening will be 9 a.m. Thursday with the parade of banners. James Valley Chapter banner will be carried by Betty Brosz and Florence Scherbenske of Jamestown. Richard and Mavis Ben from Gackle, N.D., will attend and meet with relatives from Germany at the convention. There will be workshops, sing alongs, speakers, meals and Kuchen breaks. There will be activities for youth and the youth essay winners will be announced. There will be the premier showing of the new Prairie Public documentary on Germans from Russia. The closing service will be at 9 a.m. Sunday with a non-denominational memorial service and the passing of the torch to the host of 2013 convention.
